Between paper-cuts, a pile of work higher than the Drakensberg, and that creepy guy from the sales department that insists on giving you high-fives, your head can feel like a pressure cooker after a long day at the office.  So, the last thing you want when you get home is to have to endure a painful and laborious cooking experience that can leave you feeling more traumatised than an episode of Game of Thrones.  The sweet irony of it all is that this problem can be solved by… you guessed it… a pressure cooker!

An essential cookware item for those individuals pressed for time, pressure cookers aren’t at all like ordinary saucepans. They may make strange hissing noises, but that’s only because they’re doing their job! Saving you time, saving you energy and cooking you healthier, tastier meals.

This means that you can have an entire stew done faster than it takes you to finish your first bottle of wine for the evening – do we hear you say “challenge accepted!”?

Pressure cooker recipes are typically quick and easy. For those of you that dream of preparing a quick meal for your family without having to resort to using a microwave or toaster, electric pressure cookers or traditional pressure cookers allow you to do this, with next to no hassle.

Easy Beef Stew Pressure Cooker Recipe

To get the taste buds prepared for what could be in store, here’s a pressure cooker recipe that’s incredibly easy to make, and absolutely delicious:

Ingredients

  • 1 tbs Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Onion, Diced
  • ± 1 Kilo of Stewing Steak, Cubed
  • 8 Medium Potatoes, Peeled and Cubed
  • 2 Beef Stock Cubes
  • 2 Cups of Water
  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • 5 Peeled Carrots, Diced
  • Salt to Taste

Preparation

  • Use medium-high heat to heat the oil in the bottom of your pressure cooker, then add the beef and onion and cook until browned.
  • Add the water, stock cubes, and carrots. Close the lid and ensure the pressure regulator is secured.  Once you hear sizzling, set the heat to medium and set your timer for 20 minutes (yes, it’s that quick!).  Set the pressure for 10 pounds.
  • While the cooker is working its magic, boil the potatoes in a separate saucepan. This should take about at long as the stew takes to cook.
  • After 20 minutes, release the pressure from your cooker and drain the potatoes.
  • Remove the lid of your cooker and place it over medium heat, bringing the contents to the boil. Mix the cornflour with a little water and stir it into the stew, letting it cook for a few minutes.  Now simply add the potatoes, and you’re done!
